We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Payroll Supervisor to join our thriving professional services firm. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to oversee and manage our payroll department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate processing and recording of our company's payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and participating in daily data entry payroll processing. This position involves managing payroll staff, liaising with other departments, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and coordinate activities of payroll staff to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  3. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  4. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  5. Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  6. Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  7. Perform payroll general ledger setup and processing.
  8. Handle multi-state payroll processing and related tasks.
  9. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the payroll process.
  10. Collaborate with the Human Resources (HR) and Accounting departments to align and reconcile payroll data.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising a payroll team.
  3. Experience with multi-state payroll, wage laws, and payroll taxes.
  4. Proficiency in payroll software along with strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  5. Strong understanding of the payroll process, including payroll taxes, employee benefits, and other deductions.
  6. Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes.
  7. Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.
  8. Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  9. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  11. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  12. Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance.
  13. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  14. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
