Overview
Jenner & Block is seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Legal Recruiting Manager to join our dynamic and collegial Talent Team in our mission to recruit the best legal talent. This role will be an essential part of our Recruiting Team and will lead and manage recruiting initiatives in our Chicago location as well as supporting our firmwide recruiting initiatives.
This position is an exempt position based in Chicago and is responsible for all aspects of lawyer and law student recruiting, including summer associates, first years, post-clerks and lateral associates, and will also manage our orientation and integration process for new lawyers joining the firm. This individual will support some key firmwide recruiting and DEI initiatives and will manage the Chicago Legal Recruiting Coordinator. The Legal Recruiting Manager will report to the Firmwide Director of Legal Recruiting.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing the complete attorney recruitment processes for the Chicago office including lateral attorney, post-clerk, and summer associate candidates and manage candidate sourcing, Law School OCI process, interview process, candidate communications, applicant tracking/database management, and onboarding.
Partnering with Talent Team, Hiring Partners, and Recruiting Committees to develop and execute hiring initiatives including lateral attorney, post-clerk, and summer associate recruiting.
Managing and overseeing the Chicago office’s summer program including orientation, training programs, assignment management and tracking, evaluations, exit interviews, and summer program event planning and execution.
Facilitating and maintaining positive relationships with key schools and organize targeted and consistent on-campus outreach to promote firm brand and visibility.
Supervising and providing guidance and leadership to Chicago Legal Recruiting Coordinator.
Collaborating with firmwide Legal Recruiting, Professional Development, and DEI Teams to support and implement firmwide initiatives, share best practices, and ensure excellent and consistent candidate/customer experience.
Supporting the orientation and integration process for new attorneys.
Serving as a trusted advisor for associates and directing them to appropriate firmwide team members and resources as needed.
Partnering with the Chief Talent Officer and Firmwide Director of Legal Recruiting on firmwide strategic projects and initiatives.
Maintaining and tracking the Chicago Legal Recruiting budget.
Qualifications
A four-year bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent work experience.
A minimum of 5 years prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment (law firm experience preferred).
Experience in managing recruiting with a comprehensive understanding of a law firm or professional services environment. Demonstrated ability to deliver a high standard of work while maintaining a customer service focus.
Ability to assume leadership role when necessary, and ability establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with colleagues in other departments and at all levels of firm management.
Superior interpersonal, written and communication skills, and the ability to interface effectively, professionally, courteously, and confidently with candidates and all team members at the firm.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills with strong attention to detail and sound business judgement.
Highly motivated, proactive self-starter with strong initiative and leadership skills with the ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
Regular travel to San Francisco office as required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and Adobe Acrobat; experience with ViDesktop/applicant tracking systems and/or SharePoint and ability to master new software programs.
