The VP, Accounting & Finance will be responsible for providing the vision, leadership, strategic direction, and performance of the financial functions, overseeing the design & execution of financial reporting, analysis, corporate accounting, and tax functions. This includes the development and implementation of related systems, controls, reporting, KPIs, procedures, and policies. This role will review financial results, data, and emerging trends in support of complex cash management and budget decision making, while ensuring compliance with federal practices, regulatory requirements, and other applicable rules.

  • Starting salary range, based upon commensurate skills and experience: $190,000 - $230,000 plus robust benefits package


Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead and develop high-performing teams responsible for driving effective accounting and financial performance, ensuring financial goals (P&L, balance sheet, cash management) are met
  • Remain knowledgeable of financial market and industry trends, regulatory changes, competitive landscape, and other external influences to actively participate in strategic and tactical planning, plan monitoring, and strategy revision decisions based on evolving business conditions, especially in the areas of healthcare economics and trends
  • Define, develop, and drive process improvements to reduce finance business process cycle times, improve financial forecast quality and reliability, and improve financial reporting and data to drive business decisions
  • Oversee financial closing and filing activities to ensure accuracy of all financial statements and schedules (monthly, quarterly, and annual), including responsibility for regulatory filings, fixed asset management and serving as a back-up to the SVP, Treasurer & CFO on corporate financial attestations for all regulatory requirements
  • Oversee financial reporting and treasury functions, cash and investment assets, forecasting and planning, financial systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting principles, practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements, ensuring effective and efficient controls
  • Appraise the organization's financial position and distribute appropriate financial targets for profitable growth of various business segments and proactively reviewing financial statements for opportunities to increase income, updating financial forecasts and ensuring executive leadership is continually advised and informed
  • Lead annual budget development, forecasting, and related analyses; strategically partnering with leadership team and influencing action on risk assessment, contracting excellence, pricing, business ventures, customer profitability, and cost controls
  • Lead full cycle accounts payable processes, resolving complex issues and discrepancies
  • Serve as the primary resource for Quartz payroll policies and collective bargaining agreements
  • Lead corporate taxation including federal income, state income, sales/use tax, and payroll tax practices, policies, and procedures
  • Oversee insurance operations programs in multiple service areas, including account installation, implementation, client support, contract administration, claim processing, and enrollment & eligibility - manage vendors assigned to minimize loss/expenses


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 15+ years of experience in increasingly responsible positions in Financial Management and/or Accounting fields
  • 7+ years of experience working in healthcare, health insurance, and/or managed care field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated success formally managing, developing, and coaching high performing finance and accounting professionals
  • CPA, CMA, and public accounting experience is preferred
  • Ability to create high level financial presentations to support and influence key business objectives at the executive, board, and investor level
  • Knowledge and skill in applying standard managerial and administrative concepts and principles, including financial procedures, practices, and regulations aligned with GAAP and SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and generate innovative ideas
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills - ability to gain trust and influence a wide range of stakeholders across all levels of the organization, in a highly matrixed environment
  • Able to measure business performance and influence through financial indicators, including financial model development and analysis
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills - ability to translate and communicate topics in a variety of forums, tailoring communications to effectively fit and influence the targeted audience

This position has the flexibility and autonomy to work in an hybrid environment, but should expect to report regularly to our office in Madison, WI. Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
