General Description

This position provides computer systems administration, application and technical support, and user training. Provides customer service in support of departmental operations.Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Performs on-site and remote computer systems administration including but not limited to security, installing hardware/software and licensing. Applies software and hardware upgrades to City computers.Receives, tracks, and records help desk calls to MIS team based upon issue; researches issues when necessary to find a resolution; provides solutions to help desk caller questions and recommends resources for further training, if applicable.Oversees and assists with the installation and maintenance of computers, printers, and other electronic devices for use throughout City facilities. Including repairs/rebuilding of computers when deemed necessary.Reviews use of software and provides recommendations for improved functionality.Maintains and creates technical documentation. Updates existing documentation based on changes associated with new installations or software. Creates new documentation based on new software or hardware processes.Tracks software maintenance agreements for updates and upgrades and overall security risks; updates as necessary.Provides computer related orientation and supporting documentation to new employees.Reviews, modifies, and creates databases. Reviews current or proposed job processes that benefit from the use of a database.Evaluates the need for new equipment, obtains quotes, and purchases computers, monitors, computer components, printers, software, peripherals, etc. within the confines of the budget and purchasing ordinance.Retires old equipment (computers, monitors, printers, etc.) and prepares them for disposalResponds to critical IT emergencies after regular work hours as needed.Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates Degree/two years of college level course work in Information Systems Technology or related field; and two (2) years of information systems related experience; ORHigh School diploma/GED equivalent; and five (5) years of directly related information systems experience.OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate proficiency with general office computers and related business software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point; Internet and email.Supplemental Information

Note Regarding Starting Wage:

Each position at the City of Rochester Hills has an assigned Pay Grade consisting of 6 steps. New employees generally start at Step 1 to allow for growth and wage progression, aligned with the City's annual review process. The City will evaluate the applicant's skills and experience to determine whether a higher Step placement is appropriate.
