Scope of Job

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine ( UTRGV SOM ) is seeking a Board Certified / Board Eligible General Surgeon / Trauma Surgeon for a non-tenure track appointment in the Department of Surgery. The position is full time with the UTRGV SOM General Surgery residency program. Responsibilities will include practicing general surgery medicine throughout the Rio Grande Valley in hospital/outpatient settings and the supervision and teaching of medical students and residents.

The incumbent will also serve as the Program Clerkship Director / Site Program Director for the general surgery residency. This includes responsibility for the overall organization, function and quality of the medical student experience in the course.

Minimum Qualifications

MD degree with Board Certification in General Surgery or board eligible and completion of an ACGME residency program. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License. Experience in Medical Education.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Board Certified / Board Eligible General Surgeon, must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License, completion of an ACGME residency program. Preferred extensive experience in HPB surgery.

Preferred Qualifications

Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care, Trauma.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may

require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is

performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive

and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code

§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of

Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least

135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement

Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week

and at least 135 days in length.
