GENERAL FUNCTION:

To provide therapy and remediation to students with communication problems (speech, language, auditory perception, hearing impairment), which interfere with individual educational achievement in an integrated program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, intervention, and follow-up services for speech and/or language disorders of: i)speech, including articulation, fluency, voicelanguage, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, and disorders of receptive and expressive communication in oral, written, graphic and manual modalities; oral and pharyngeal functions, including disorders of swallowing and feeding;cognitive aspects of communication; and v) social aspects of communication

Create IEP goals and benchmarks or short-term objectives to enable students to meet expectations for learning.Interpret and use assessment data for the purpose of making appropriate modifications in the learning environment and planning effective interventions.Accesses and employs a wide range of information and technology to enhance student learning.Plans, selects, uses and adjusts necessary instructional content, materials, resources, and strategies based upon age, ability, cultural, linguistic, and gender differences of the student.Maintains useful and accurate records and communicates information such as legal rights and evaluation results knowledgeably and responsibly to parents/guardians and others involved in meeting the needs of the student.Maintains confidentiality of medical and academic records.Participates in professional development opportunities.Communicates with parents/guardians to develop cooperative partnerships in order to promote students' learning and wellbeing.Collaborates with other professionals as resourcesOther duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Licensure in Illinois as Speech and Language Pathologist
