The Manager of Sterile Processing manages staff responsible for the decontamination, preparation, and sterilization of instrumentation for surgical and procedural services. Provides leadership to advance department goals, improve quality, promote performance improvement and professionalism, and to ensure an environment of safety focused on patient care and positive patient outcomes.

Your Everyday

Demonstrates understanding of LCMC quality, patient safety initiatives by ensuring strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.Works closely with the Nursing staff to ensure all sterilization parameters are being implemented correctly.Establishes protocols and procedures to ensure monitoring of biologicals and flash rates.Maintains proper records and biological reports according to departmental policies and procedures.Takes the lead on sterile processing improvement plans and coordinates with other Department Managers.Knows the location of instrumentation and acts as the resource person to other staff members.Maintains traffic flow between decontamination area and Sterile Processing area according to Hospital Infection Control Policy.Oversees quality control and documentation related to the sterilization process in all sterilization areas.Checks indicators, reporting any discrepancies, and develops appropriate action plans.Establishes recalls when necessary and documents accordingly.Ensures environment is clean, safe, appropriate cleaning schedule is maintained for facility autoclaves and sterilizers.Handles instruments and complex instrumentation correctly to ensure proper functioning instruments are available in sets.Instructs staff on appropriate decontamination, preparation, and cleaning needed before re-sterilization.Obtains and returns borrowed instruments to the appropriate outside facility.Communicates with the Surgery Department concerning items out for repair.Is responsible for ensuring vendor equipment is available and processed in a timely manner.Interviews, hires, counsels, evaluates, and terminates Sterile Processing personnel.Maintains and updates the skills checklists of the Sterile Processing staff and reports them to the appropriate leader annually.The Must-Haves

Minimum:

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

2 years of supervisory/management experience.5 years of sterile processing experience.EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of Surgical tech program or BS in Health Sciences.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA) OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of cleaning specialized instrumentation.Ability to guide/lead staff effectively, understand quality and infection control requirements and reporting, prioritize and manage time appropriately.Familiarity with Censitrac, SPM "Sterile Processing Microsystem", T-Doc, Impress, a plus.WORK SHIFT:
