Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Sterile Processing Department Manager or designee, supervises the day-to-day activities of the department and provides staff coverage as needed. The Sterile Services Supervisor coordinates the decontamination, sterilization, processing and storage of all medical instruments maintaining adequate inventory of all levels. The Sterile Services supervisor provides expertise in sterile processing techniques and ensure that sterile processing procedures adhere to infection control practices including quality, regulatory, clinical, and compliance guidelines to promote safety, efficiency and delivery of quality services.

Responsibilities

Organizes, directs, and coordinates functions and activities in central supply/services department; interprets and implements policies, procedures, and regulations.Ensures the sterilization processes adhere to all infection control practices to include quality, regulatory, clinical and compliance standards and guidelines to promote safety, efficiency and delivery of quality services.Oversees and coordinates the maintenance, assembly, storage, and delivery of medical instruments to meet established par levelsAdministers processes to coordinates Sterile Processing services and functions with nursing and other departments in order to provide services promptly and efficiently.Serves in the capacity of educator, collaborating with management to perform assessments of staff training and development needs on an ongoing basis and to provide educational programs for all levels of staff.Oversees inventory, assembly, and storage of instruments and sterile supplies.Develops and executes policies and procedures for departmental operations with updates as needed to ensure current practice standards.Conducts a continuing review of the level of quality and performance of all assigned departments and service programs.Implements changes in procedures and practices in order to meet customer needs as well as the overall strategic initiatives of the system.Practices effective communication and interpersonal skills to enhance positive teamwork and to accomplish goals/tasks.Practices effective communication and interpersonal skills to enhance positive teamwork and to accomplish goals/tasks.Promotes excellence in customer/patient relations with all encounters.Supports and promotes the organization's safety program. Provides assistance with in-services and programs, as requested.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.Supervisory Duties

Provides overall supervision for assigned staff and the daily operations to ensure that medical instruments, supplies and equipment that require decontamination, sterilization, cleaning or repair are received, collected, processed, assembled, packaged, stored and or delivered in a timely manner.Coordinates implementation and evaluation of department orientation and competency based training for staff with attention to development, coordination and evaluation.Selects staff, trains/orients subordinate personnel, prepares work schedules, and allocates assignments. Provides supervision, monitors and evaluates work performance. Recommends/initiates personnel actions up to, and including discharge, in accordance with Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs, and personnel policies.Maintains work environment that provides maximum safety and health and encourages safety awareness among employees with an on-going departmental safety program. Reports unsafe conditions and injuries/illnesses and incidents in a timely manner and ensures that employees perform duties using safe work techniques in accordance with OSHA safety and health rules and sanitation standards.Maintains departmental reports and records, and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes, as requested. Assists with monthly financial statements and cost reports.Reviews department/unit operations manual to ensure compliance with applicable The Joint Commission standards, federal and state regulations, accepted Standards of Conduct, and the Corporate Compliance Program. Complies with allConnecticut Children's Policies and Procedures, Corporate Compliance Program Standards of Conduct, and all applicable statutes, rules, and regulations.Plans, conducts, and supervises short-term projects.Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.Minimum experience (minimum years & type of experience): Two years of experience in the Sterile Processing DepartmentTwo years' experience in a Lead Technician role.Preferred education: Associate's degree in applied sciences.License and/or Certification

Required:

Sterile Processing Certification(s) required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
