The Medical Staff Services Department (Office of Provider Affairs) at St. Charles Health System is the administrative department of St. Charles Health System that supports and serves the organized medical staff and its leadership in carrying out their responsibilities. It is recognized within the healthcare industry as the gatekeeper of patient safety through its efforts to support the organized medical staff and the system in the selection and retention of healthcare professionals. facilitates the engagement of the organized medical staff within its core responsibilities of safe patient care and high-quality professional practice. The department supports the entirety of the provider engagement cycle including verification, credentialing, privileging, enrollment, onboarding, peer review and performance management. The professionals working in Medical Staff Services serve as the experts in matters of credentialing, privileging and medical staff governance within the healthcare community. This foundation is the basis upon which safe and quality care can be assured for patients.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The
Director of Medical Staff Services,
at St. Charles Health System ,
oversees the Medical Staff Services department level activities to achieve optimum service and performance objectives. The Director plans, implements and administers goals, detailing objectives and specific timetables, and promotes a culture of safety within the facility. This position directly manages caregivers providing services supporting the entirety of the provider engagement cycle, provider leader engagement, and the accomplishment of delegated responsibilities of the organized medical staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Provides direct oversight of departmental managers and other caregivers within the department, including nurse specialists administering a comprehensive provider performance management program.
Maintains current regulatory standards (CMS, TJC, and NCQA) to ensure compliance with all medical staff functions and delegated credentialing requirements.
Ensures a comprehensive provider engagement cycle including initial application and primary source verification, credentialing, privileging, enrollment, onboarding, peer review and performance management for both new appointments and reappointments.
Maintains up to date medical staff and advanced practice professional specialty specific delineation of privileges, focused and ongoing professional practice, and peer review processes that are key components of a high-quality organization.
Oversees the direction and implementation of processes ensuring accurate, aligned, and compatible Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Policies.
Facilitates the Medical Staff committee support processes and dissemination of information between Organized Medical Staff Medical Executive Committee, Sections, Divisions, Medical Staff members, and organizational staff as indicated.
Directs the development and monitoring of an effective, proactive, innovative, customer-focused and service-oriented department through development and training, staffing and retention strategy, workforce planning, succession planning; attracting and retaining top performers, and developing effective and appropriate performance management. Provides mentoring and seeks ongoing development to all members in the department.
Accountable for the financial management functions for the department. Develops, implements, evaluates and manages the department's annual and capital budget to achieve both the department's objectives and that of the Medical Staff. Specific budgetary management considerations include the Unassigned Emergency Department Call Pay Program and Medical Director Contracting.
Establishes internal controls and monitors financial performance and reports financial results to stakeholders; evaluates variances, determines underlying causes and identifies, presents, and implements proposed solutions; establishes and monitors productivity metrics; ultimates accountability for compliance with organizational financial policies and procedures.
Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
Supports principles of continuous improvement (ie Lean) with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. EDUCATION
Required : Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a health care related field.
Preferred : Master's Degree.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required : NAMSS Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS); and/or NAMSS Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM).

Required:
Minimum of 7 years' experience in the medical staff services credentialing field. Minimum of 2 years previous supervisory experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
