Assistant Farm Manager
will play a key role in both the daily operations and long-term growth of Burns Blossom Farm. This position requires hands-on farming skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for organic, regenerative agriculture. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with Farm Owner Kyle Burns, learning both the hands-on skills of market farming and the strategic aspects of managing a successful and profitable intensive organic farm. One of the main purposes of this new role is to take part of the load off the farm owners shoulder, you’ll slowly be taking over more and more responsibilities of the Barber Market Farm location. Assistant Farm Manager Tasks Include: Conduct weekly field walks with farm owner Kyle to assess crops, plan harvests, and organize tasks. Oversee and manage day-to-day operations at the Barber Market Farm. Supervise and lead the farm crew during harvesting, planting, trellising, and bed prep. Transplant (Paperpot & hand) and direct seed using the Jang JP-5. Manage irrigation and fertilization to optimize plant health. Operate and maintain essential farm tools, including the BCS Walk-Behind and Tilther. Maintain detailed farm records for organic certification. Keep the farm organized, clean, and efficient for daily operations. Assist in crop planning and seasonal adaptations. Represent the farm at farmers markets and events, engaging directly with customers. Maintain open communication with the Farm Manager to ensure seamless daily operations. Help develop and adapt SOP’s(Standard Operating Procedures). Occasional work days at the Santa Clara Ave. Farm when needed. Assistant Farm Manager expectations: Arrive on time consistently and dependably. Follow instructions carefully and pay close attention to detail. Commit to the entire season and maintain reliability in scheduling. Be physically fit, able to lift 50+ lbs, and perform repetitive tasks. Adapt to outdoor work in all weather extremes. Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Maintain a positive attitude, supporting and encouraging fellow crew members. Accept and apply constructive feedback with professionalism. Communicate clearly and effectively with crew members and farm owners. Work Schedule & Commitment: Full-Time position, Monday–Friday, occasional Saturdays and/or Sundays. Average 40 hours per week, varies with the seasons. Location: Barber Neighborhood Market Farm (Chico, CA) Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years of farming experience. Early morning starts in summer (as early as 6 AM) to beat the heat. A full-season commitment is expected, with opportunities for long-term career growth.
