The Elementary PYP Director works closely with the school leadership team and teachers to ensure the fulfillment of Washington Yu Ying PCS’ mission by adhering to the standards and practices of the International Baccalaureate Organization. To support school growth, student learning, social-emotional development, critical thinking, and the school community, the Elementary PYP Director will: Develop the required curricula for Grades 1-5 and mentor all teachers. Collaborate with IBO as the school’s key point person. Enhance student learning by supporting instructional effectiveness through the facilitation of teacher collaboration; individual coaching; professional development planning, facilitation, and assessment of the overall program. You will drive Yu Ying’s mission, vision, and team’s success by: Collaborating with all teachers in curriculum development and instruction. Take on a mentor or co-teaching role when necessary. Facilitating learning of staff necessary for the implementation of the PYP. Planning, implementing, supporting, and assessing the PYP. Ensuring the delivery of required curricular areas is consistent with the PYP framework and the school mission. Sharing in the ownership of the responsibility for the success and struggles of implementing the PYP. Working in conjunction with the instructional leadership team in planning and leading professional development for the teaching staff. Maintaining professional competence through participation in required professional development activities and events provided by Yu Ying and/or self-directed professional growth activities. Developing and monitoring data outcomes for implementing processes to improve student achievement, with a focus on students furthest from resources. Managing the process of curriculum development. Attending, arranging, and supporting weekly team planning meetings, 2-3x per year full-day grade planning meetings, Friday team planning meetings, August team planning meetings. Lending support to lead teachers in their classroom regularly, as needed. Being familiar with and advise on all school PYP-related documents. Staying updated on PYP publications and share out regularly with teaching staff. Working with staff to create an effective learning environment that is aesthetic, functional, and reflects inquiry-based pedagogy. Monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the PYP. Being the point person on authorization and evaluation visits as required by national IB offices. Arranging professional development training related to IB for all instructional staff. Undertaking or contributing to special projects, both internally and/or in cooperation with outside agencies/organizations to promote the IB PYP and to extend the impact of the program within the community. Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, and school administration to report on student progress and understanding of the goals of the PYP. Required Qualifications: Extensive experience and knowledge in the IB PYP educational framework. A deep belief in Washington Yu Ying PCS’ vision and mission. Appreciation, experience, and understanding of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of inquiry-based elementary school education and the ability to apply them to the school's needs. Familiarity with inquiry-based elementary education curriculum and instructional practices and trends. Positive attitude and maturity sufficient for a demanding leadership role and longer school days as needed. Experience in instructional coaching. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education-related fields from an accredited institution. 10 years or more experience in teaching elementary grades, with relevant and consistent experience in IB PYP World schools.
