The Material Process Innovation Engineer -Intern will work under the direction of a Process Innovation Engineer to support U. S. Steel's Product Portfolio.
The student will partner with a Material Development Engineer(s) and contribute to the team by:•Developing an understanding inclusion analysis by use of SEM•Process data collection concerning steelmaking & casting•Developing internal work requests for lab work and simulations on material and reviewing results•Tracking material as it processes through the manufacturing process•Reviewing and communicating production trial results
This position will provide the student with exposure to various aspects of U.S. Steel's overall business, as well as interaction with cross-functional teams. The student should gain a well-rounded knowledge of the company's product development process and the Research and Technology Center facility.
REQUIRED :•Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Material Science & Engineering or Materials Engineering or Metallurgical & Materials Engineering•Completion of at least sophomore year and be in good academic standing•Ability to start work in summer of 2025 and beyond•Ability and willingness to work an average of 40 hours/week during the summer, with an option to work a minimum of 16 hours/week during the school months•Continuation of an acceptable grade point average while participating in the program•Use of thermodynamic models coupled with VBA, python, and MATLAB preferred•Excellent planning and organization skills•Computer literacy to a working skills level - proficient with Microsoft Office product
