The New Mexico Department of Transportation provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico. The IT Infrastructure unit supports all enterprise datacenter operations to support the agencies critical infrastructure, and improvement projects, while maintaining a high level of security controls to protect the agency data and constituents of the state of New Mexico transportation needs.

Why does the job exist?

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) maintains a vast network of transportation infrastructure including roads, transit systems, railways, and airports. This position serves a vital role to maintaining, administering, and securing NMDOT enterprise IT infrastructure for all business operations.

How does it get done?

This position supports areas of compute, storage, virtual software and backups, while ensuring that services are available by monitoring system alerts. Upgrading systems to align with any published vulnerabilities. Ensure backups are processed and tested per configured schedules.

Who are the customers?

Customers include business units throughout the agency, and information technology units within the IT Division.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:

*Experience supporting physical server hardware*Experience with Windows Server 2016 and above*Experience and knowledge of Microsoft services such as Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP*Experience supporting VMware vSphere version 8*Experience with troubleshooting basic OSI model layers and providing technical supportfor various customers and colleagues*Experience or basic understanding of best security practices to secure systems*Experience with security software*Experience with user permissions and understanding of Role Based Access Controls*Experience remediating security vulnerabilities for various platforms*Familiarity with command line and basic commands*Good communication and strong documentation skills

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and ability to lift 50 pounds may be required. As well as occasional travel to remote locations.
