Who We AreSpearmint Energy (“Spearmint”) is a next-generation renewable energy company enabling the clean energy revolution through developing and installing battery energy storage systems (BESS). Spearmint currently operates a 150MW/300 MWh BESS project located in West Texas, and is also developing over 20 projects, totaling over 10 GWh of capacity, across 10+ states in 4 regions of the United States. Spearmint develops, owns, operates, and optimizes battery energy storage systems with the aim of reducing grid volatility, increasing system resiliency, and helping minimize carbon emissions in a responsible and efficient way.
What You Will Do
The Manager of Regulatory & Legislative Affairs will help support Spearmint’s Director of Regulatory & Legislative Affairs with public policy efforts via legislative and regulatory advocacy at the state and regional levels as well as support the company’s position in various ISO/RTO markets committees. This role will report to the Company’s Director of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs.
Core Responsibilities:
Track and report state legislature activity as well as state utility commission activity on impacting energy storage legislation and policy.Work with Director to integrate input from development, operations, and commercial teams, as well as executive leadership, to identify policy-driven risks and opportunities, and to articulate the company's positions on key issues.Support internal teams (development/operations) goals/activities, from a regulatory perspective.Support the Director in creating and executing advocacy strategies to advance public policy goals across multiple regions.Maintain current knowledge of regulations (federal/state/market/local) applicable to the company and monitor the effect changes will have on company operations.Work with advocacy groups and represent Spearmint in market stakeholder meetings, as needed, to support Spearmint’s goals/objectives for development and operations.Who You Are5+ years' experience in regulatory affairs, government affairs, and public policy in the energy industry.Familiarity with key renewable energy policies and market issues affecting renewable energy project development in the short and long term.Bachelor's degree from accredited college/university (political science, economics, public administration, social science, humanities, or other relevant field); Graduate degree or professional development preferred.Travel as needed.Work Environment and Physical Demands
