Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing journeyman-level work on plumbing and related mechanical systems for university facilities. The position will coordinate work efforts with the shop supervisor, building users and other trade groups. It will respond to, diagnose and resolve plumbing emergencies.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:Install, maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures, systems and related equipmentTest backflow assemblies and record resultsInstall gas, compressed air, piping and insulationPerform minor maintenance and repairs to safety systemsMaintain sewer pipes and clear blockagesWinterize systems subject to freezing temperaturesTest and record water quality in swimming poolsMaintain and operate programmable controls for water treatment systemsOther duties as assignedUnit URL

Required Experience

Working as a plumber following codes applicable to plumbing installation, maintenance and repairRequired Education

Possess a current State of Idaho Journeyman Plumber and a IDAPA 07.02.05 State of Idaho Backflow Assembly Tester License OR be able to obtain them within twelve months of hirePossess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehiclesAbility to respond to emergency calls within one hour and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotationBe at least 18 years of ageAdditional Preferred

Knowledge of and experience in a variety of maintenance tasks (e.g., carpentry, construction and electrical trades)Aquatic Facility Operator certificationState of Idaho HVAC Journeyman's license in accordance with Idaho Code Title 54, Chapter 50Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must be able to:

Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a timeClimb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor liftsCarry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 poundsWork in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Work in inclement weather conditionsParticipate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test
