Description
Position Purpose/Summary:The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the New American Program (NAP) staff byfulfilling volunteer requests, identifying material and service gaps, accessing resources, andestablishing new community and organizational partnerships.Essential Functions: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential functions.)1. Recruits, inspires, trains, and coordinates volunteers to support the NAP program.2. Conducts orientation for new volunteers, educates on relevant cultural practices, andprepares them for specific duties.3. Develops assignments appropriate to volunteers' interests, coordinates schedules forsuch assignments, and places volunteer in roles most appropriately suited to needs,availability, and abilities.4. Manages, builds, and maintains relationships with individual volunteers and volunteergroups.5. Advise the Case Management team of any issues arising from volunteer and clientinteractions and/or volunteer service delivery.6. Implements standard operating procedures, reviews, and improvements to enhancevolunteer services and activities.7. Ensures that all volunteers are vetted by HR and abide by LSC policies.8. Monitors volunteers' satisfaction, productivity and provides recognition as appropriate.9. Regularly solicits updated list of in-kind needs from NAP staff, to be shared with volunteerand donor lists.10. Records in-kind donations.11. With NAP staff input, identifies material and services needs to support program success.12. Researches and reaches out to community groups and organizations to establishpartnerships with the aim of meeting NAP needs.13. Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education: BA / BS in related field.
Experience: 2 years of experience in volunteer recruitment, training, coordination, andmanagement; 2 years of experience in outreach and partnership development andmanagement; previous experience in refugee resettlement and cross-cultural environmentspreferred.
Specific skills/abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills and communication, both written and oral.Exceptional presentation and training skills. Ability to maintain a pleasant, customer-centereddemeanor and professional image under a variety of challenging situations. Strongorganizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and change directionquickly. Exceptional relationship building and community outreach skills. Ability to nurture andmaintain partnerships. Ability to work as a team member and independently, with a high level ofself-motivation. Skill in using computer applications applicable to the department as well asdatabase, Excel, and Microsoft Word. Desire to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.Analytical skills to interpret and communicate policies and procedures, and identify and initiateappropriate corrective action to resolve problems.
Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: High level of computer literacy is required, with proficiencyin MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) as well as Internet and e-mail applications. Valid NC orSC driver's license. Valid insurance and a reliable vehicle to be able to travel locally as requiredfor the performance of duties.
