To provide financial and administrative management and analysis for several complex operating and sponsored project budgets including multiple funding sources, multi-site research projects, or program projects. Applies an advanced understanding of the principles and practices of financial and grants management in the accomplishment of financial and administrative activities.Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:7-9 years’ experience in research administration.Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and grant administration.Demonstrated experience required to financially manage complex research projects.Excellent accounting, management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively, independently, and as a member of a team.Willingness and ability to exercise judgment and initiative and to interact with faculty, personnel, and outside agencies in a professional manner.Flexibility and openness to change.Ability to plan work, set priorities, and respond to pressures, deadlines, and changes in schedules and priorities.Attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to maintain and foster confidentiality.Proficiency in database management, spreadsheets, and other computer software.Proven ability to create and manage advanced Excel spreadsheets.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in not-for-profit accounting and grants management in an educational and/or research setting preferred.Familiarity with Dartmouth College accounting systems and procedures.Responsibilities
Develops, justifies and administers budgets for research funding such as grants, reserves, gifts, and startup accounts. Independently anticipates fluctuations in funding and makes financial recommendations to investigators.Monitors expenses and revenues for accounts, identifying, researching and correcting errors on a timely basis to ensure costs are properly allocated.Collaborates with the Office of Sponsored Projects and other resources at Thayer to ensure compliance with Dartmouth and granting agency policies.Performs in-depth analyses of the financial impact of implementing proposed new research projects, terminating existing projects, etc.Develops and sets up budgets for subcontracts; reviews subcontractor submissions to ensure costs are realistic.Provides principal investigators with regular budget status reports summarizing expenditures to date and projected expenditures.Ensures compliance with Dartmouth and granting agency fiscal and sponsored research policies.Serves as a resource to investigators and staff on regulatory, compliance, and sponsor requirements.Equal Opportunity Employer
