JOB DESCRIPTION

Supervisor- Exceptional Education Services

Under the supervision of the Superintendent and in cooperation with other District administrators, the Exceptional Student Services Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership for effective operation of the Special Education program at all grade levels and ensuring compliance with all program requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with securing staff in collaboration with building Administrators to provide services to special needs students per the Individualized Education PlansOversees contract services staff that provide services for Speech, Occupational Therapy, Physical therapy, Vision, Hearing and School Psychologist.Provides projections on staff needs for the short and long term.Advises principals and teachers regarding the integration of special education classes and services in the total school program.Oversees extended school year services for eligible students.Oversees special education student's services who are Homebound, Home Schooled or Home-based.Participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team, IEP, and Manifestation Determination meetings as needed.Assist with Compiling and releasing census data under Federal Law to the State Department of Education using the October 1st child count.Assist with "Child Find" programs for the district.Monitors and establishes policies and procedures for all district, state, and federal regulation compliance.Assists with Investigations and resolves any grievances, mediations or due process claims under IDEA.Assists with investigations and resolves any Office of Civil Rights complaints under ADA or Section 504 of the Rehab Act.Keeps informed on the current Special Education legislation by attending trainings and communicating with experts in the field.Monitors accuracy and compliance of Special Service student's paperwork.Ensures the eligibility and placement of students in special education programs.Oversees Special Education and related issues, in-services, and other related meetings for staff.Oversees the Special Education Preschool program.Evaluates the effectiveness of IEPs through classroom observation and conferencing as requested by building administrators, parents, and teachers.Trains Alternative Assessment staff and oversees materials and assessment completion.Case manages students in Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs) or private day schools.Supports and trains staff with the IEP online program.Works closely in collaboration with building level administrators and district level administrators.Serves on district and community committees as required.Assists in the evaluation of staff performance.Represents the District to organizations such as Arizona School for Deaf and blind, alternative programs and agencies by attending the team meetings.Completes and submits all the reports required by Arizona Department of Education for Special Education.Coordinates 504 plan development and implementation of 504 plans with the building site assigned 504 coordinators.Completes IDEA Consolidated grant application, revisions, and completion reports.Monitors and evaluates problems, conditions, and needs of the Exceptional Student Services Department.Conducts exit interviews of personnel.Attends School Board meetings and serves to actively improve communication, cooperation, and planning in the District.Maintains effective communication with staff, parents, and the community.Coordinates with building administrators on staff development for teaching and support staff.Serves as a member of the District's Emergency Management Plan Team.Ensures proper adherence to District policy and procedures, and ensures proper adherence to applicable contract language that is in effect for the District.Serves as Compliance Officer for Americans with Disabilities Act.Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.COGNITIVE ABILITIES

Requirements for the position include:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university.At least five (5) years teaching experience in a Special Education.Possess Arizona Department of Education Teaching certificate in Special Education, and a Supervisor or Administrative Certificate.Administrative experience overseeing, developing, documenting, and evaluating Special Education programs and related services.Have experience working with Native American StudentsHave a working knowledge of Arizona Exceptional Student Services and Federal Law and grant requirements. Must be able to lead and manage, and to ensure that targeted goals and initiatives are achieved.Ability to enhance overall educational programs and services for all students by building capacity and consistency for effective change and sustainability.Ability to increase capacity, accountability, and efficiency for improved effectiveness among classified and certified personnel and other district related personnel.Ability to enhance communication, critical thinking skills, and collaboration among program personnel and other district related personnel.Ability to promote team-building and shared responsibilities among program personnel and other district related personnel.Ability to perform the above responsibilities at a high level.REPORTS TO

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Physical Demands:

Occasional travel to School and Department offices, buildings, classroom and grounds.Often sitting for extended periods. Standing for periods of time.Moderate lifting from 15-30 pounds. Must have a valid driver's license.Clearances:

Must have valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Must pass a preliminary background check by the District.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Twelve-month work year. Salary and benefits shall be in accordance with the District Policy.EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with the provisions of District Policy and Administrator Contract
