Overview
The HR Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the organization adheres to all relevant labor laws and regulations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs, policies, and practices to ensure the company operates within legal and ethical boundaries. The HR Compliance Manager will also oversee the company's immigration program, ensuring compliance with all immigration laws and regulations. This position is crucial in a company with salaried professional employees and hourly manufacturing employees, requiring a strong understanding of labor laws and regulations specific to this workforce.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement HR compliance policies and procedures, including annual policy acknowledgment and employee handbook signoff.Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations, including state-specific leave laws, as well as labor laws in Canada and Mexico.Conduct regular audits to identify potential compliance risks and implement corrective actions.Provide training and support to employees on compliance-related topics.Investigate and resolve compliance issues and complaints.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor laws and regulations and communicate changes to the HR team and management.Oversee and manage the company's immigration program, ensuring compliance with all relevant immigration laws and regulations, including I-9 verification.Prepare and submit compliance reports to regulatory agencies, including AAP (Affirmative Action Plan), EEO-1, and California Pay data reports, as required.Manage severance agreements and oversee unemployment claims to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.Conduct due diligence on acquisitions to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.Collaborate with other departments to ensure company-wide compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR compliance or a related role.In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) is preferred.Competencies, Skills, KnowledgeAttention to detail and strong organizational skills.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.Strong ethical standards and integrity.Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to sit at a desk, stand, and walk as neededENVIRONMENTOffice environmentTRAVELOccasional travel
