The DNR is seeking to fill one (1) full-time, Accounting Technician position, at our central office in Saint Paul, MN. This position provides fiscal and accounting support to fiscal services and financial reporting units within the Operations Services Division (OSD).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide accounting and fiscal support for expenditure activities, revenue activities, and functions of the Operations Services Division Business Office.
Review business expenses so that employees can be reimbursed in a timely manner in accordance with statewide and agency policies and procedures.
Complete paperwork for payments, reimbursements, and expenditure corrections.
Prepare regular and periodic aging reports and follow-up on outstanding invoices.
This position may be eligible to telework, which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement. This position may require reporting to the primary work location occasionally for meetings, training, onboarding, or as needed by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of accounting experience in receipting and verifying financial transactions within an accounting system
OR
Three (3) years' experience providing administrative support duties for financial records, such as inputting and accessing data into accounting systems, approving, and preparing invoices, and processing expenses.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records, and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Arithmetic and mathematics skills sufficient to compute totals, averages, and percentages of numerical data and to check or reconcile data.
Proficient in common office software applications such as Microsoft Excel and Adobe sufficient to analyze and present data for supporting documentation and implement digital signature workflows.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders sufficient to gather requirements, explain technical concepts, provide guidance and training, address concerns, and build relationships.
Time management and organizational skills sufficient to handle a large volume of work while maintaining accuracy in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in accounting, business or finance or closely related field.
Two (2) years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping.
Knowledge of audit procedures sufficient to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations.
Experience working in government and the ability to interpret and explain state rules, statutes, policies, and procedures related to accounting practices and fiscal policies, procedures, and practices.
Knowledge of state accounting system, policies, and cost coding.
Knowledge of the Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports, and budget requests.
Additional Requirements
There are no driving duties required.
