Job Description:The person in this IT Application Developer position on the OCIO FIN/REV team will be working under direct supervision of other team members on medium to complex COBOL development projects in support of critical line-of-business systems. The job will include the functional and technical design, implementation, and ongoing support of medium to complex systems. The job will work closely with other team members to write, debug, test, and document programs in COBOL.
The candidate will work with personnel from other agencies to help support their mainframe solutions. Knowledge of these complex systems will be needed in order to answer questions, address issues as they arise, and make modifications on a timely basis.
This position is in person at 501 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508The working hours Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm
Job duties
This person will work with senior and lead developers to learn complex mainframe systems while consulting with agencies on development projects. They will participate in the full range of software product development activities, including requirements gathering; analysis and definition; functional and technical design; coding and testing; implementation, and production support with supervision from senior and lead developers. This person will be required to be on call off-hours to assist with issues that may arise outside of normal work hours. This is an on-site position only, in Lincoln NE.
This person will need to have an understanding of how data is passed between web applications and mainframe applications, and issues that could arise in those communications. This person will be working on multiple projects at once and, will need to have the ability to prioritize projects in order to meet project goals.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in computer programming or similar area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using Cobol, JCL, DB2, VSAM, Compuware Topaz Workbench. Experience with configuring and troubleshooting complex COBOL systems. Experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, estimating projects, production support.
Other : Regular and reliable attendence is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must be service oriented, have strong interpersonal and analytical skills that include working directly with various levels of business and technical staff to determine sound technical solutions for business requirements. Candidate must have strong technical, organization and planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
