Job Title: Project AccountantJob Description
We are seeking a talented Project Accountant to join our team, reporting directly to the Construction Accounting Manager. This position will manage the financial activities for our construction division, complete month-end close entries and related reconciliations, and work closely with various stakeholders throughout the organization. The successful candidate must possess excellent technical and communication skills to ensure financial compliance and maximize cost efficiency. The final offer is based on qualifications which may be outside the pay range provided.
Responsibilities
Manage all financial aspects of construction projects, including projections, budget preparation, assist with project set-up in ERP, cost tracking and reporting.
Ensure that all project-related expenses are captured and aligned with projections and contract terms.
Perform ad-hoc project accounting for shared services with our A&E divisions.
Ensure that the month-end close journal entries are completed accurately within established deadlines.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliation with a full understanding of the underlying account activity.
Manage pay applications and review change orders.
Analyze project schedules in relation to change orders to ensure accurate timelines.
Investigate/resolve reconciling items, aged transactions, or discrepancies and contact appropriate individuals to gather information to propose and implement solutions.
Prepare adjusting journal entries and submit appropriate supporting documentation with all entries.
Prepare audit schedules, provide audit support, and assist the auditors in their inquiries.
Perform cost coding, reconcile project-related accounts, and resolve any financial discrepancies.
Communicate with the appropriate personnel to record missing items and correct mistakes.
Maintain documentation in compliance with internal and external requirements ensuring adherence to SOX controls.
Provide support to the overall Accounting Department assisting with special projects and analysis as needed or requested.
Maintain adequate records for historical look up and reference, both paper and electronic.
Other tasks and ad hoc requests as assigned.
Essential Skills
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Project Accounting role
Proficiency in large ERP software systems highly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Thorough understanding and application of GAAP Accounting principles
Experience working in projects $20M and up
Ability to communicate with sub-contractors
Experience with liens and sub-liens
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experience with a General Contractor or large multi-stage, multi-deliverable revenue generating projects
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CPA certification is a plus but not mandatory
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in our Centennial office, requiring in-office presence 2 days a week (Mondays mandatory) and remote work for the remaining 3 days.
