Position Based Test
About:
This is a Position-Based Test conducted in accordance with CSC Rule 111A. Amid a dynamic and ever-evolving urban landscape, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department stewards one of the premier urban park systems in America. Our core mission is to provide opportunities for San Francisco residents and visitors alike to gather, play, learn, relax, and enjoy nature in the city. Under general supervision of the Chief Park Ranger, this position serves as the Park Ranger Unit’s second-in-command position to ensure proper management, oversight, and consistency in our mission delivery of public safety and parkland security. The essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist the Park Ranger Chief in leadership of the Ranger Unit; Act for the Chief Ranger in the latter’s absence to ensure proper operation of Ranger Unit; Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure operational and administrative effectiveness; Provide integration and operational oversight of all security infrastructure and new technology; Manage all Sergeant training and mentoring, including Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) curricula; Develop and oversee the Park Ranger Dispatch Center; Serve as accurate information source for all Department leadership situational awareness; Ensure excellent time management and adjustment of priorities for Ranger Unit; and Perform related duties as assigned. How to qualify
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Management, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or closely related field;
AND Three (3) years of verifiable professional work experience overseeing staff in law enforcement, park ranger, military service, and/or security management;
AND Possession of a valid CA driver’s license (at the time of appointment). Desirable Qualifications: Completed training in leadership skills. Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in stressful situations. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills. Excellent customer service skills. Supervisory experience, including planning, organizing, assigning, directing, and monitoring staff performance. Familiarity with payroll and staff scheduling systems. Knowledge of camera and security systems for facility monitoring purposes. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. How to Apply:
