Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Creates practice and game schedules, coordinating facilities and teams. Forms teams when necessary. Places players considering skill levels and special requests to ensure the best experience for all participants. Recruits and oversees volunteer coaches and umpires. Ensures league standings are maintained. Inspects fields and facilities used for athletic activities. Determines and informs coaches of necessary schedule or field changes, including postponement or cancellation of games or practices due to weather or other conditions. Administers First Aid to injured players, officials or spectators. Processes paperwork for code violations, First Aid rendered, and weekly league scores. Ensures safety of spectators and players. Enforces league rules and participant code of conduct. Makes determination regarding suspension and/or ejection of players or coaches when necessary. Interfaces between Town and participants, spectators, and facility owners. Provides direction to League Supervisors and Scorekeepers. Recruits team members and markets leagues to the community. Cares for sports equipment and takes inventory. Performs duties of League Supervisors and Scorekeeper as needed including scoring officiating contests. Assists with special events or tournaments. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience instructing and/or teaching sports/activities, including experience in developing curriculum and coaching/lesson plans; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

CPR and First Aid Certifications are required (which can be obtained at the Recreation Center) or ability to attain within 30 days of hire Valid driver's license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of principals and practices of parks and recreation administration and programming. Skill in supervising and instructing others. Skill in interacting with public/program participants. Skill in performing CPR and first aid. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Skill in operating score boards, and sports equipment. Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as rule books, codes of conduct, equipment manuals, handbooks, catalogs, user guides and manuals, ACEP Volunteer Instruction Guide, and Parks & Recreation policy and procedure manuals. Physical ability to officiate and coach athletic events. Ability to physically access playing fields/venues for athletic events, including multiple sites during any one shift. Knowledge of athletic/sports official rules and sports terminology. Knowledge of sports rules and regulations for various age groups. Skill in both written and oral communication for effective expression and clarity. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, support staff, volunteers and coworkers. Strong organizational skills. Skill in supervising volunteer staff, which includes coaches and umpires. Ability to read field and facility diagrams and dimensions. Physical Demands:

Moderate to heavy physical work to include lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 50 pounds Ability to exert heavy physical effort and frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or twisting Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens Ability to physically access a variety of event sites Work Environment:

Works both indoors and out, and to withstand exposure to varying weather conditions Equipment Used:

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

Must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
