SUMMARYThe Operational Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable staff and the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions. The Operational Accounting Manager will perform a wide variety of professional duties including facilitation of the month-end AR and AP close while exercising discretion and judgment to recognize and resolve unusual or complex issues. Preparing GL reconciliations and performing the analysis independently deemed necessary to understand and resolve any issues uncovered. Tracking, researching, and proactively addressing issues with customer and supplier accounts. In addition, this role is responsible for identifying areas for process improvement to increase transaction efficiency and for working cross-functionally across the organization to design and implement new processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDay to Day AccountingObtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.Obtain a thorough understanding of TM business processes, apply previous experience to make recommendations for improvements and lead implementation of process changes both within the accounting department and through cross-functional teams.Manage and optimize department workflow.Monitor critical tasks to ensure that processes and internal controls are operating effectively and efficiently and are properly documented.Manage all cash-related transactional activities (e.g. AR deposits, collections, deduction processing, aging review, AR claims processing, AP payments) to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and timely.Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of TM product pricing across all sales channels and provide support to Order Entry, Sales, and AR with resolving pricing issues involving unit prices, off-invoice discounts, and allowances.Ensure all sales tax due is properly identified and recorded.Ensure all vendor information is complete for 1099 processing and manage the annual 1099 reporting process.Conduct credit reviews on new customers and significant suppliers.Provide transactional accounting support to business partners to address issues and non-standard transactions.Prepare monthly account reconciliations including analyzing activity to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, determine and resolve issues identified.Provide TM business partners with support for new vendors and customers including updating the ERP.

Supervision of StaffManage and direct day-to-day activities of transactional accounting staff.Responsible for hiring and training of direct reports.Support, coach, and discipline direct reports, as needed.Monitor and evaluate employee job performance.OtherTransform current AP and AR processes utilizing additional technology to address future growth aligned with business objectives.Monitor emerging technology for automation opportunities.Assist with or lead ERP system implementations, integrations, and upgrades involving transactional accounting processes.Exercise discretion and judgment to recognize, research, and resolve issues.Preparing monthly status reports on payment collections, claims, and deductions.Support budget and forecasting activities by analyzing accounts, performing research and resolving issues uncovered, and responding to inquiries as requested by the Financial Accounting leader, Controller, Chief Financial Officer, or Department heads.Assist with the completion of documentation required for financial audits, preparing tax returns, corporate reporting requirements, and internal controls.Comply with all company, local, state, and federal accounting and financial regulations.SUPERVISORY/BUDGET7 direct reports (AR & AP teams), no direct budgetary responsibility.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience/Education:Minimum four years’ proven work experience as an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Manager.Experience with trade promotions and deductions highly regarded.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.CPA or public accounting experience highly regarded.Demonstrated competency with the scope of duties listed in the job description.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.Demonstrated ability to lead a team.Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement projects including managing change within the department and business units.Knowledge of GAAP requirements.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proficient in using and interpreting data from ERP systems.Ability to manipulate large amounts of raw data (including pdf) to Excel data conversions.Excellent organization skills, attention to detail.Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Self-starter requiring limited task supervision.Strong team player.Excellent interpersonal skills.Quick learner and quick thinker, good at brainstorming.Commitment to and ability to demonstrate TM’s values: humility, respect, quality, collaboration, innovation, and sustainability.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Technical Skills:Proficient with accounting and ERP systems such as Dynamics AX.Intermediate to advanced level skills with MS Office Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Travel Requirements (if any):Limited travel once or twice per year to attend training seminars may be required.

Office Hours/Location:This position is based in Rohnert Park, CA. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 5:00 pm. This is a hybrid role offering the flexibility to occasionally work remotely. Expected in-office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Compensation range is $113,200 - $148,550.Compensation is determined based on non-discriminatory, business-related factors, including but not limited to, training, experience, education and/or professional certifications, geographic location, and market data.
