Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a highly skilled and experienced Tax Group Non-Profit Counsel to join its team in McLean, VA. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in representing various non-profit entities and possess comprehensive knowledge of federal tax laws, governance, and compliance issues specific to charitable and tax-exempt organizations. This role requires excellent academic credentials and a proven track record in managing complex tax and governance matters for non-profits.Key Responsibilities:Represent a variety of public charities, major colleges and universities, hospitals, healthcare organizations, publicly supported organizations, supporting organizations, family and corporate, private foundations, and charitable and scholarship trusts.Advise clients on federal tax compliance issues affecting charitable and tax-exempt organizations, including endowment and governance matters.Guide federal tax rules applicable to private foundations, including issues related to self-dealing, excess business holdings, and taxable expenditures.Assist clients with matters related to participation in joint ventures and the consequences of unrelated trade or business activities.Draft and review legal documents, including policy statements, agreements, and compliance reports.Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in federal tax laws and regulations affecting non-profit organizations.Develop and deliver presentations and training sessions for clients and staff on tax and governance issues.Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the Bar in Virginia or eligibility for admission.Experience in tax law with a focus on non-profit and charitable organizations.Proven experience representing various non-profit entities and handling complex federal tax matters.Strong understanding of federal tax rules for charitable organizations and private foundations.Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.Certifications:Licensed to practice law in Virginia or eligible for admission.Skills:Deep knowledge of federal tax laws and regulations related to charitable and tax-exempt organizations.Expertise in governance, endowment, and investment matters.Ability to handle complex compliance and regulatory issues.Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions and internal collaboration.High level of professionalism and attention to detail.Capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
