Job Overview:

A law firm in Charlotte, NC, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Tax Group Non-Profit Counsel to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of federal tax law as it applies to charitable and tax-exempt organizations and will have experience representing a diverse range of non-profit entities, including public charities, major colleges and universities, hospitals, healthcare organizations, and private foundations. This role demands expertise navigating complex tax compliance issues, governance matters, and endowment and investment strategies.Duties and Responsibilities:Represent and advise various non-profit entities, including public charities, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and private foundations.Provide expert guidance on federal tax law compliance related to charitable and tax-exempt organizations.Address governance and endowment matters, including investment strategies and compliance issues.Handle federal tax issues specific to private foundations, such as self-dealing, excess business holdings, and taxable expenditures.Advise on participation in joint ventures and the implications of unrelated trade or business activities.Develop and implement strategies to manage and resolve complex tax-related issues.Draft and review legal documents, including agreements, policies, and compliance reports.Stay current with developments in federal tax law and regulations affecting non-profit organizations.Collaborate with clients to provide strategic counsel and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the Bar in North Carolina.Extensive experience in tax law with a focus on non-profit organizations and charitable entities.Proven track record of handling complex tax compliance and governance matters.Strong understanding of federal tax rules for private foundations and non-profit organizations.Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.Education:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Certifications:Admission to the bar in North Carolina.Skills:Expertise in federal tax law applicable to charitable and tax-exempt organizations.In-depth knowledge of governance, endowment, and investment issues.Proficiency in managing private foundation compliance, including self-dealing and excess business holdings.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
