A law firm in Washington, DC, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Tax Group Non-Profit Counsel to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing various non-profit entities, including public charities, major educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and private foundations. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of federal tax law as it applies to charitable and tax-exempt organizations, including endowment, governance, and investment.Duties:Represent various non-profit organizations, including public charities, colleges and universities, hospitals, and private foundations.Provide expert legal counsel on federal tax compliance for charitable and tax-exempt organizations.Address governance issues, endowment management, and investment matters for non-profit clients.Advise on federal tax rules applicable to private foundations, including self-dealing, excess business holdings, and taxable expenditures.Counsel clients on participation in joint ventures and implications of unrelated trade or business activities.Draft and review legal documents, including tax-exempt status applications and compliance reports.Assist with audits and inquiries from the IRS or other regulatory bodies.Stay current on changes in federal tax laws and regulations affecting non-profit organizations.Develop and deliver presentations and training on tax-related matters for non-profit clients.Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the Bar in Washington, DC.Experience in tax law, focusing on non-profit organizations.Proven track record of working with various non-profit entities and handling complex tax issues.Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Education:JD degree from an accredited law school.Undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., accounting, finance, or business) is preferred.Certifications:Admission to the Bar in Washington, DC is required.Additional certifications or specializations in tax law or non-profit management are a plus.Skills:In-depth knowledge of federal tax laws and regulations affecting non-profit organizations.Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex cases and projects.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Proficient in legal research and document preparation.Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
