With roughly 1,600 employees in 11 offices across Ohio, BWC is the state agency that cares for Ohio workers by promoting a culture of safety at work and at home and ensuring quality medical and pharmacy care is provided to injured workers.

For Ohio employers, we provide insurance policies to cover workplace injuries and safety and wellness services to prevent injuries.

What You'll Be DoingUnder direction, presides over or represents BWC at quasi-judicial administrative hearings, including hearings before the Ohio Industrial Commission (“IC”) and BWC’s Adjudicating Committee.Advises business units on employer compliance and employer fraud matters.Prepares difficult cases to represent the BWC at IC hearings (e.g. reviews claims files, collects evidence, analyzes and researches legal issues involved).Provides legal advice & responds to inquiries from State &/or county agencies, general public, legislative bodies &/or government officials regarding eligibility, reporting requirements & benefits payable.Reviews, recommends & drafts legal memoranda and work aids related to extraterritorial jurisdiction, independent contractor matters, no-coverage claims, and trucking industry areas of law.Handles legal adjudication matters involving Marine Industry Fund (MIF) pursuant to Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act 33 USC 901 et seq.) & State workers’ compensation laws.Handles legal adjudication matters involving Black Lung (i.e. Ohio Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis Black Lung Fund) pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 4131.01 & 20 CFR 725-491.

Minimum RequirementsAdmission to Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; must be able to provide own transportation. Probationary period is 12 months.
