Role Summary
Our mission is to revolutionize the way our business manages financial data, and we need a visionary Technical Lead to spearhead our General Ledger application transformation. The Director, Finance Applications Development partners with other IT resources and the CFO business team to optimize technology outcomes. Success for the Technical Lead starts with building and maintaining strong relationships with all other counterparties. A deep understanding of business and IT processes supports proposing and driving changes that deliver value for business partners at National Life Group. This role involves leading a team, collaborating with IT and finance departments, and ensuring that the GL system supports accurate financial reporting and compliance.

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position. National Life offers a competitive total rewards package which includes: a 401(k) retirement plan match; medical, dental, and vision insurance; a company funded wellness account for director and below employees; 10 paid holidays; a generous paid time off plan (22 days of combined time-off for non-exempt employees and exempt employees have discretion in managing their time, including scheduling time off in the normal course of business, but in no event will exempt employees receive less sick time than required by state or local law); 6 weeks of paid parental leave; and 6 weeks of paid family leave after a year of full-time employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Support: Provide advanced technical support for complex issues, working closely with vendors and internal teams to resolve problems and implement solutions.
- Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the GL system, overseeing data management processes, reconciliation, and validation.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure the GL system adheres to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. Manage system security and user access controls.
- System Management: Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and integration of the General Ledger system, ensuring it operates efficiently and aligns with organizational requirements.
- Data Analysis: Perform well-documented and repeatable data analysis using a variety of tools, including Excel, SQL, Python, Alteryx, Tableau and others.
- Documentation: Document processes and current state system information in a standardized and consumable format.
- Stakeholder management & collaboration: Work with business stakeholders to ensure solutions satisfy business requirements and are of the highest quality. Utilize strong emotional and social intelligence to build relationships across the enterprise. Communicate effectively, and with an appropriate level of detail, to business and IT resources.
- Flexibility: Work with limited direction, usually within a complex environment, contributing to operational and transformational efforts.
- Core Work Days: This position is presently onsite/hybrid with the expectation that you are in the office three days per week with current campus days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferred in Computer Science or an analytical discipline, or relevant work experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on IT applications
- 3+ years data analysis experience
- 3-5 years of experience in managing General Ledger systems or financial software
- Experience with MS Dynamics or Lawson.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in accounting.
- Experience with actuarial and/or financial systems.
- Experience in insurance, particularly Life & Annuity.
- Strong background in technical management.
