Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for supporting the Geographic Information System (GIS) team by compiling, maintaining and performing quality control checks on basic spatial and tabular data and performing other duties as required.Duties and Responsibilities

Produces mapping projects for internal and external usesDesigns and produces models using spatial and tabular dataPerforms basic analysis on spatial and tabular dataDigitizes maps utilizing GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing SoftwareConducts GPS data collection and coordination with field staffPrepares a variety of GIS projects for internal and external customersOrganizes, maintains and archives computer files, drawings, maps and filesCompiles information for requests for GIS dataConducts general computer troubleshootingPerforms related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of college coursework from an accredited college or university in the field of GIS, Information Services, Geography, Community and Regional Planning, Mathematics, Surveying, Computer Science or Civil Engineering or a closely related field, and one (1) year experience with geographic information systems, programming, cartography, automated computer drafting design, technical drafting and applications with personal computer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of GIS technology, cartography, CADD drafting and various digital data formats; knowledge of GPS surveying. Working knowledge of ArcIMS, ArcSDE and Oracle preferred.

Skill in GIS data processing and demonstrated ability in digitizing, operating a personal computer and peripheral equipment and utilizing software. Proficiency in ArcGIS software, related data, metadata and data modeling; skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing; skill in communicating technical information to individuals with varying levels of computer literacy.

Ability to interpret statistical data; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations, service providers and the public.

Must have a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance.

Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.

Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test.

Must be a registered voter in Bexar County.

Required to work overtime during election preparations.

May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.
