is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a

Certified or Licensed Counselor (Alcohol & Drug Counselor) , grade

Q18/21 , in the

Inmate Services Division .

About the Position

This is a dually allocated position whereby the incumbents will be non-competitively promoted to Correctional Treatment Coordinator II, after serving a successful 12-month probationary period. This is entry to full performance level professional work, whereby the incumbent performs a full range of assignments in rehabilitative and remedial social services to inmates/detainees, within a Correctional Facility. Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher-level Correctional Treatment Coordinator and evaluated through conferences, review of completed work, and observation of performance.

*This position is considered "Essential". The incumbent selected for this position must be willing to stay or report to work during a program-related incident/crisis, a man-made crisis, or inclement weather when other county employees have been granted administrative leave.

About the Agency

The Prince George's County Department of Corrections provides a safe, secure and humane environment for pre-trial and sentenced offenders. We also provide rehabilitative programs to inmates such as: education, juvenile services, religious services, domestic violence, barber styling school, nail technician, women's empowerment, substance abuse drug treatment, and community re-entry.

Provides individual and group counseling for all eligible incarcerated individuals with mental health, substance use, and behavioral health disorders utilizing various therapeutic assessments tools.

Develops a comprehensive psycho-social history and in-depth risk needs assessment for targeted population.

Provides group counseling sessions utilizing in-person and virtual content.

Provides individual counseling regarding citizens returning to the community and therapeutic services.

Provides interactive skill building education to incarcerated individuals.

Updates incarcerated individuals' treatment plans every 30 days.

Completes screening, intake, and urinalysis of all program participants.

Maintains case files and required documentation.

Gathers and submits required data.

Prepares needs and risk assessments.

Develops, assesses, and maintains resources to assist with incarcerated individuals' pre and post release plans.

Maintains and submits up-to-date records to support statistics monthly.

Provides assessments and referrals to community programs and agencies.

Coordinates Bachelor and Master level intern activities, providing input to the Behavioral Health and Wellness Section Chief and higher level Correctional Treatment Coordinator.

Conducts monthly criminal background checks on incarcerated individuals to maintain program compliance.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Public/Business Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related fields.

Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LCADC)

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)

Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)

Licensed Graduate Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LGADC)

Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C)

Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)

Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP)

Conditions of Employment:

Upon selection, the candidate must:

Provide the required licensure or certification required by Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. (REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION)

Be willing to work in a Correctional Facility.

Obtain and remain current with NCIC certifications.

Pass a thorough background investigation.

Pass a drug screen and subsequent random drug screens.

Be willing to work day/evening shifts and weekend hours and holidays.

Pass a physical examination that includes TB testing.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
