The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for Coordinator or Senior Coordinator, Intellectual Property. This position is charged with managing the extensive day-to-day activities associated with protecting and commercializing university intellectual property (IP). Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Enterprise & Innovation (AVPEI), the Intellectual Property Coordinator/Senior Coordinator manages all day-to-day activities associated with IP management, monitoring licenses and other contracts, works with faculty and staff to implement materials transfer agreements (MTAs) and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and manages invention reporting compliance requirements of federal agencies and other research sponsors.Coordinator, Intellectual Property

The Coordinator tracks, manages, and takes appropriate actions to manage all activities associated with patent preparation and prosecution between outside IP law firms and the university. The incumbent also monitors license agreements for licensee compliance with terms and conditions and oversees distribution of licensing revenue to inventors and other stakeholders. The Coordinator will stay up-to-date on intellectual property and basic contract terms to ensure that the university is following established guidelines and standards.Senior Coordinator, Intellectual Property

The Senior Coordinator will supervise the staff members responsible for docketing and updating the IP/agreement database, as well as reporting of inventions to government funding agencies to ensure compliance. They will oversee the processing of legal purchase orders and invoices associated with patents. The Senior Coordinator will engage with faculty to solicit and review invention disclosures within an assigned technology area. They will conduct IP educational seminars to various departments across campus. Furthermore, the Senior Coordinator will perform patent searches to support patent filing decisions and work with outside counsel on patent negotiation and prosecution matters. The Senior Coordinator will collaborate with licensing managers to oversee the university patent portfolio.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Act as primary liaison between the Associate Vice President of Enterprise & Innovation, University faculty and researchers, and legal counsel inside and outside the University.Monitor bar dates and other deadlines, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken by the deadlines.Coordinate patent, copyright and trademark application preparation and prosecution with IP counsel.Manage and negotiate incoming and outgoing materials transfer agreements (MTAs), non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs).Obtain export control clearance for all MTAs by consulting with UNR’s export controls officer.Monitor license and other commercialization agreements for payment and report due dates.Work with licensees to ensure that they are in compliance with all terms and conditions.Prepare and negotiate IP management agreements such as inter-institutional agreements with co-owners of IP.Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience; OR a Master’s degree and two (2) years of related work experience.Related Professional Experience: IP management at paralegal level or above or related.Senior Coordinator, Intellectual Property

Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related work experience; OR a Master’s degree and three (3) years of related work experience.Related Professional Experience: IP management above paralegal level, patent searching, patent drafting and/or prosecution, contract review experience or legal education or related.Certification and Licensure
