Office of the Director .About the PositionThis position requires work that is performed at a professional level and may require extensive public contact during evolving emergency events. Work assignments require knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, and procedures; the ability to communicate well with others; and possess a high degree of independent judgment, action, and initiative. The incumbent will manage various projects and programs within OHS and ensure sustained and successful outcomes; responsible for project delivery by planning for and managing project execution, resources, and risks, this includes facilitation across the Agency's divisions, sections, units, and coordination with federal, state, local governmental entities and community stakeholders; will be responsible for graphics and content analysis, including development, design, and formatting information for the Agency; will provide strategic and/or tactical support to implement ideas and provide support and oversight for special projects and initiatives; the incumbent will prepare various types of documentation, to include reports, briefings, presentation, surveys, inventories, and incident/operational materials; lead and provide professional level media relations work involving the preparation and dissemination of information and promotional materials in support of the OHS. This is an essential public safety position.About the AgencyThe Office of Homeland Security (OHS) was developed as a result of legislation passed in 2003. This new agency incorporated critical emergency response entities that were previously part of other agencies. Public Safety Communications (PSC), which included all County 9-1-1, emergency dispatch and radio system support, had been part of the Office of Information Technology and Communications (OITC). The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) was a division of the Fire/EMS Department. OEM and PSC were combined under the leadership of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Public Safety/Director of Homeland Security, forming the Office of Homeland Security. The legislation and resulting changes to the Charter, spelled out the separate and distinct missions assigned to OEM and PSC.The incumbent will organize and manage projects and programs to support the strategic direction of the Agency in support of its mission and goals; create and prepare assorted types of documentation, to include reports, briefings, presentation, surveys, inventories, and incident/operational materials, that support the day-to-day project support to the Director and acting as an interface with all Agency divisions; perform qualitative analysis methods and advanced program analysis techniques, concepts, and practices; provide professional level media relations functions involving the preparation and dissemination of information and promotional materials in support of the Agency and varied engagement activities designed to educate, inform, and promote the Agency's goals and objectives.Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Disaster Preparedness, Crisis Management, Public Safety, Digital Communication, Social Media, Contemporary Communication, Public Relations or a closely related field3 years of experience in governmental and/or private sector project management and operations.Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in Business/Public Administration, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Project Management, Disaster Preparedness, Crisis Management, Public Safety, Public Relations or a closely related field; Project Management Professional Certification3 years of Project Management experience.EACH APPLICANT MUST INCLUDE DOCUMENTATION AND/OR INFORMATION THAT CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.Job Location
