Coconino County seeks a Health and Human Services (HHS) Deputy Director with a heart to serve our diverse County, including our most vulnerable populations, a mind to thoughtfully respect community partners' expertise, and hands to work alongside our talented and experienced staff and community to make a difference in the lives of Coconino County residents. We are looking for someone who brings a balance – an ability to think critically and address important community challenges, as well as a leader who values community collaboration.The Deputy Director will help lead 150 team members, with an overall department budget of $23 million dollars, contributing to an organizational culture focused on empowering all team members in an inclusive environment. At 18,661 square miles geographically, Coconino County is the second largest county in the continental United States and 18% of the entire state of Arizona. The current population is 139,000. Incorporated cities and towns within the County include Flagstaff, Page, Williams, Fredonia, Tusayan, and part of Sedona. With only 12% of privately-owned land, most of Coconino County consists of public land, including United States Forest Service and National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Tribal Trust Land and State of Arizona. The County is home to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon, as well as many other National Parks and National Monuments. Strong partnerships and relationships with federal, tribal, state, local government and community partners are essential in this role. Coconino County has an educated and diverse citizenry, including 32% having earned a college degree, 14% of the population are of Hispanic descent and 27% are of Native American descent. The County is proud home of the Havasupai, Hopi, Hualapai, Kaibab-Paiute, and San Juan Southern Paiute Tribes, as well as a large part of the Navajo Nation. Additionally, residents of the County have great opportunity for quality higher education, including Northern Arizona University (NAU) and Coconino Community College. The County is the proud home to the United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station, Camp Navajo, the United States Geological Survey Flagstaff Science Campus, the Museum of Northern Arizona, Lowell Observatory, and the Arboretum at Flagstaff. In this region you will experience a unique blend of history, culture, and breathtaking beauty.Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the Health and Human Services District; performs related work as assigned.(Illustrative Only)Assists the Director in the leading, organizing, planning, executing, controlling and evaluating activities with district-wide impactCreates and implements long-term and short-term district-wide strategic plansConducts supervisory meetings, attends management meetings and full staff meetingsSelects, plans, assigns, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of subordinatesCooperates with and coordinates activities and programs with other department divisions, community/governmental agencies, providers, organizations, professionals, and the publicRepresents the department in public appearancesGathers, compiles, and analyzes activity reports to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental and mandated programsAssists with the preparation and administration of departmental budgetCarries out special projects for the HHS DirectorOversees or compiles statistical data for various reportsMonitors compliance with contractual requirements, regulations, and standardsActs as Department Director in that person's absencePerforms other job related functions or duties as assignedEssential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; sitting; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work; vision acuity (near) for routine office and customer service duties; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity for typing and paperwork.Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Human Resources Administration, or related field, and five years of progressively responsible administrative or supervisory experience in educational program administration; ORAssociate Degree in Public Administration, Human Resources Administration, or related field, and six years of progressively responsible administrative or supervisory experience in educational program administration; ORSeven years of progressively responsible administrative or supervisory experience in educational program administration; ORAny combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.Preferred Qualifications

include 5+ Years of experience in the supervision of staff, experience in health and human services delivery and behavioral health, experience in financial reports and contracts.The
